Risks and Contraindications

Psilocybin has a strong safety profile relative to most pharmaceuticals and other psychoactive substances. It is not physically addictive, not toxic at therapeutic doses, and has no established lethal dose in humans. Across hundreds of clinical trials involving thousands of participants, serious adverse events have been rare. That said, real risks exist and should be understood clearly.

  • Psychological distress:Full-dose experiences can be intensely challenging. Panic reactions, paranoia, and acute distress can occur. These require a supportive set and setting to navigate safely.
